Current Wishful Drinking: L’Officiel Netherlands October 2009

Frida Gustavsson in L'Officiel Netherlands, October 2009.  Styled by Vanessa Bellugeon, and shot by Martin Lidell.

My dream wardrobe-slash-life consists of all of these items, and a daily need to wear outfits like this.  A cross between La Dolce Vita and Cruella DeVille, with some modern Grace Kelly thrown in for good measure.  Cannot pick a favorite look.  This is why the clothes become Current Wishful Drinking, and not an actual item in my closet.

This winter, let's hibernate

I blame the cold morning weather and my warm flannel sheets for my lack of ambition regarding getting out of bed.

When you sleep in large portions and at odd hours, a wise investment is a nice sleep mask.  My favorite site for unique sleeping masks is Strawberry Jim, which features masks designed by Dawn McConachie and Giannina Meidav from Los Angeles.  My favorite styles on Strawberry Jim are the Nebula, Spa, and Off.  Most fabulous people own one, as it allows detachment of oneself from the socializing hours of everyday peons and keeps beauty sleep-wrecking sunlight OUT.

I can sleep anywhere as long as my feet are warm, and I have a soft pillow.  My latest slipper obsession is sweater booties, and Anthropologie has the cutest pair in their latest online catalog.

As for the soft pillow, any of these accomodations will do:

If it's not already obvious from the random interior design obsession, I'm moving this week.  Not out of LA, but out of Hollywood and to a safer part of town.  Which equals Yay! for no more: weird stench wafting from the street gutters, knife-wielding bums, and horrific traffic and fashion choices...although the latter two tend to follow you wherever you find yourself in this city.  The move has presented me with an opportunity to redesign my bedroom and I have spent every spare minute trolling various design magazines and blogs for inspiration photos.  Keep your eyes peeled for updates.

That's enough for now.  Off to my own princess bed with my sleep mask and warm booties for some un-needed shut-eye!  What do you want from me?...I have been awake for over ten hours...

Born into Style: Jasmine

Born into Style: Jasmine Mancos.  Born: November 10th, 1989.  Occupation: Consistently stylish.  Kate Moss and Lady Gaga wear it six months after she does.  Known for: Wearing what she loves and having fun doing it.  An ever-changing head of hair.  Tutus.  Hula hooping for her exercise.  Loving cats.  Wacky accessories.  A hatred of public sweatpants.  A complex mix of vintage and trend-setting styles.

L.A. is not the same without you.  Nobody likes to play M.E.I.T.R.H.Y with me which leads to me playing it by myself which leads to threats on my life.  Needless to say, your presence is missed!

Love you and Happy Birthday!

Your Golden Girl,

Olive

P.S. to Jasmine - Like 90% of photos were of you hula hooping or jumping on others.  It was honestly difficult to find pictures of you doing other things.

Riot in the Streets...Jimmy Choo for H&M

You just know there's going to be people getting hit in the head with stilettos for stilettos when the Jimmy Choo collection for H&M is released to the public on November 14th.  In fact, the H&M website offers these helpful guidelines in order to prevent that from happening, but regular Choo accessories are too expensive for most of us, so I have a feeling people will still be acting insane (i.e. throwing elbows) to get their mitts on the last pair of size seven-and-half.  Why must 85% of women be the same shoe size?

Here are my Top 3 Picks from Jimmy Choo for H&M:

Electric Blue Heels with zipper, $129

Leather Belt, $49.95

Bag, $299

Clothing is also included in the collection, but I'm not too crazy about anything.  I think Casa del Choo knows what they're doing when it comes to sexy shoes and envy-inducing bags, and those are the things in the H&M collection that really stand out as something that you could conceivably see yourself buying at Barney's for a much higher price.  I also loved the zebra clutch with the short chain strap, and the red mini-gladiator heels, but they fell short of Cannot Live Without It status.

I'm not sure I'll be waiting in line in Pasadena the day it drops (yes, I must journey all the way to Pasadena for a quality H&M.  The one on Hollywood Boulevard could pass for Hot Topic.  All they have are black leggings and neon tunics with stars on them).  I do have a day job, after all.  But, I will certainly be scooping up something before it leaves stores for good.

Alternatives to Debt

Am I completely behind on the times?  Wait, don't answer that.  I have always seen Shop Ruche featured on various fashion blogs, but never really took the time to explore, despite the cute photos.  I recently discovered that I have been missing out.  Shop Ruche (via my newest daily read Design is Mine) is fantastic!  The clothes are feminine and vintage-inspired.  So, obviously, I'm in love.  Also obviously, I'm having a difficult time exercising restraint when it comes to buying everything I like since everything is so ridiculously well-priced and enviable.

These would be perfect for the upcoming holidays, so my spending is justified.  To me, anyway.  Here is a teeny-tiny selection of my favorites.

West Hollywood Halloween Parade

For Halloween, some friends and I went over  to West Hollywood for the annual parade, one of the largest Halloween celebrations in the entire world.

As a lover of costumes and dancing, I had an amazing time.  There were some very interesting and original costumes to be seen, along with some NSFW images I'll refrain from posting.  My favorites were the over-the-top, extravagant ensembles people obviously put a lot thought and effort into, such as the peacock costumes with elaborate headresses and the drag queen dressed as Jennifer Lopez at the 1999 Grammy's.

Here are some pictures I managed to take in between DJ sets and gawking.  Enjoy!
