Penny Lane Is In Our Hearts

Last Sunday, a group of my girl friends and I ventured up to Santa Barbara for the day to catch the Phoenix concert.  Yes, they played in Hollywood the night before about .2 seconds away from my house, but The Santa Barbara Bowl is a much smaller venue than The Hollywood Bowl, and we wanted to be close to the stage so 2 hours up the 101 we went.  I guess the official term would be Groupies, but we prefer Band Aids

We stopped and had lunch, then explored the main street area.  Okay.  We stopped and had two for one margaritas then ambled aimlessly down the street.  Same difference.

I love how everything in Santa Barbara seems to be influenced by nature, and the surrounding wildlife.  Even the marquee reminds me of something that would look right at home at a campground.

After a brief run-in on foot with a motorcycle cop which involved getting lost, me yelling, and several bottles of tequila being dumped on some poor innocents' front yard, we finally made it to the concert!  The concert!  We squished all the way to front row, despite the group of obnoxious teenagers that all looked like Justin Beiber on shrooms attempting to block us and deter our spirits by constantly throwing their friends up to crowd surf.

They did an extended encore, too.  Everytime I see them, Phoenix really puts on a great show.

Fast Times Near Venice High

I was looking through my photos from Labor Day at Venice Beach, and thought there are some interesting ones.

Here's a brief photo essay of my day at Abbot Kinney.

La Femme Dangereux

Kate Moss never fails to bring her A game to a fashion spread, and Marion Cotillard is easily my favorite actress, so naturally I am obsessed with the photos featuring Marion Cotillard and Kate Moss in September's Vogue Paris issue.  The la femme dangereux look is becoming quite popular among fashionista-types, and I approve.

I particularly love the bright green eyeshadow with an all-black ensemble, which just happens to be one of my all-time favorite classic color combinations.  Brought to the attention of the masses by Madonna for Jean-Paul Gaultier in the early 1990's, I am also very much interested in the re-emergence of the "cone bra" in fashion.  If only I could figure out how to make it work for the office.

La Dolce Vita

I have mentioned before that, due to my accident-prone nature, I don't wear white all that often.  With Labor Day weekend on the horizon here in the States, I am less worried about whether I can wear white anymore and more concerned over my impending plans.

While most Angelenos will be sweating it out at the beach (and I do intend to join them Monday afternoon), I am finding ways to amuse myself in the meantime.  Since I heart making To Do Lists so very much, here is Olive's Labor Day To Do List:

1.) Beginning as soon as I finish this post?  My Italian Movie Fest.  I might not be in Venice with Natalie and Quentin, but I am bringing a few snippets of classic Italian cinema into my life this weekend.  Click here for a list of the films I'll be watching.  I need the influence of fashion, romance, and meandering plotlines of these films in my life A-SAP.

These films already have me wishing I was living in this photo shoot, by Diego Diaz Martin in Sicilly...

2.) On Saturday: FYF Fest in downtown Los Angeles.  I am so excited for this cool outdoor food truck and music festival!  I mean, they're advertising is geared towards vegetarians.  How could I not?  I'll be going with my friends Natasha and Monica, I can't wait!

3.) Last, but not least, that old L.A. faithful: The Beach.  I'm thinking of hiking in the Santa Monica mountains first thing in the morning, while it's still cold and then grabbing a picnic lunch and heading down to Zuma with the masses.  Perhaps wearing something like this, as I am sure to remain under the Italian influence all weekend.

Totally Lit

This is probably not breaking news to anybody other than me, but while bored at work today I happened upon a great new(ish) blog, Lit Life, over at Elle.com.  A quick scroll through the entries yielded a fantastic list of must-reads for me.  Be sure to check it out and add it to your own blogroll.

Just wanted to share my discovery quickly.  That's all for now!
