Current Wishful Drinking: Purple Overalls

Current Wishful Drinking: Purple Overalls

A few months ago, my boss instituted an “Overalls Day” at work.  This may seem odd, but it was a TV show and she is a dedicated slave to fashion.  Overalls Day came about after a typical writers-room we’re-so-far-off-topic-who-cares-lets-start-planning-tomorrow’s-outfit-discussion.  Finally, there was an excuse to wear my purple denim overalls someplace other than the one-person fashion show that took place whenever I felt like wearing them - just before realizing that purple denim overalls are work-appropriate in very few situations.  Mostly only when your boss tells you it’s Overalls Day.

Immediately I set about tearing apart my closets.   Of course, they were nowhere to be found.  I remembered trying them on recently after finding them in a box of my childhood tchotchkes.  Combined with a lifelong affinity for baggy clothing, I also sadly haven’t grown that much since fifth grade and they were now a perfect fit.  So... where the hell were they?  Then I remembered... it was like “Things We Lost in the Fire” except it was “Things We Lost in the Out of the Closet Donation Spree”.   Whyyyyyy?!?!?!?! Of all the stupid worn out t-shirts I still have in my drawers, the cutest pair of purple overalls somehow made the cut of “Psh, never wearing that again”?!  It must have been during my juice cleanse, when I was feeling lightheaded all the time.  I vowed never to spring clean on an empty stomach again and set about to find their replacement.

Then, there they were, purple denim overalls from Reminiscence in the pages of Glamour’s August 2012 issue.  In the middle of a very colorful editorial with Max Greenfield.  Which is very appropriate because Schmidt-types - actually, most guys - HATE overalls.  Overalls make you invisible to men, even the non-men men that populate L.A.  But wait!  It gets even better: this version comes with thick straps perfect for tying into bows and they bunch around the ankles, so you can prevent getting dragged into a machine while working at the factory.   Or, you know, just show off your cute shoes.   That too.

No More Words

During the summertime, every Saturday night in Pershing Square downtown there is a free concert/food truck parade.  Last night the Garage Gypsy and I went to see Berlin and the park was full of garlic dip, ginormous ice cream sandwiches and 80's hits.   In other words, it was pretty much perfect.

If you're in L.A. it's definitely something worth checking out!
